Joyuus LLC Receives .7 Million in Small Business Innovative Research Grant Funding to Develop Postpartum Technology ProgramJoyuus LLC Receives .7 Million in Small Business Innovative Research Grant Funding to Develop Postpartum Technology ProgramBringing together a powerful team of experts, Joyuus tackles the intractable problem of the lack of adequate accessible, postpartum care.

Joyuus™, LLC, a digital health startup in women's health, today announced it received $1.7 million in Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant funding through the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Minority Health, and Health Disparities.

Of the 4 million births per year, one in three women will have a severe (often preventable) health outcome. Black and brown women are 3-4 times more likely to die from preventable postpartum complications than white women. One in seven women suffers from depression over the 12 months after having a baby. Too many women struggle unnecessarily. Founded by experts in health research, product development, and design, Joyuus is working on converting scientific research into an impactful healthcare solution.

Through this funding, Joyuus will deliver evidence-based information on over 100 topics impacting moms during the entire 12 months after having a baby, from acute clinical concerns to physical, mental, and real-life issues to give women power over their postpartum health.

"The challenges related to lack of postpartum care have improved little in two decades," says, Co-founder Lisa Marceau who experienced undiagnosed postpartum depression firsthand 19 years ago after having her first child. "Joyuus is a digital health technology innovator bringing accessible postpartum self-care to women where they are in their postpartum journey."

Joyuus founders Lisa Marceau and Kristine Merz bring 30 years of expertise in human-centered research and design. They are joined by clinical expert and Co-Investigator Dr. Allison Bryant (Massachusetts General Hospital) and a team of developers, clinical experts, designers, and content experts, and supported by accelerators and tech giants such as Alpha3 Cloud, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Leafpoint, New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC), Social Enterprise Greenhouse and RIHub Venture Mentoring Service.
