Breast pain, or mastalgia, is a very common condition with a wide spectrum from very mild to very severe symptoms.
Prior to your appointment the following simple measures may help to reduce your pain:
- Reduction in caffeine intake
- Wearing a bra with strong support eg. a sports bra
- Weight reduction if overweight and/or a low fat diet
- Evening primrose oil 300 mg daily
If no specific cause is found for your pain at the breast clinic, hormonal treatments may be discussed with you. Although this type of treatment can have side effects it is usually given at a low dose for a short period of time to attempt to reduce the chance of this happening. To monitor your progress it would be useful to fill in the enclosed pain chart. Bring the completed chart to your next consultation.
