Diagnosis

The best method to make an accurate diagnosis in breast disease is to use a process called “triple assessment”. The three components of triple assessment are:

1. Clinical breast examination
2. Breast imaging (mammography and breast ultrasound)
3. Ultrasound-guided needle biopsy for patients with a breast lump.

Using this technique a recent audit of over 7000 women demonstrated that triple assessment gets the diagnosis correct in 99.6% of patients1.

The Cambridge Breast Clinic provides triple assessment for all patients with breast disease in a “one-stop clinic”. This means that all your investigations will be performed in one clinic on the same day and you will leave the clinic with a diagnostic report.
