Professor Gordon C Wishart

Clinical Director & Breast Endocrine Surgeon
Cambridge Breast Clinic at Mitera

Professor Gordon Wishart graduated from The University of Edinburgh in 1983 and completed his surgical training in Glasgow in 1995. His MD entitled “Aspects of multidrug resistance in breast cancer” stimulated an early interest in breast cancer research which has persisted and developed. In 1998 he was appointed as a consultant breast & endocrine surgeon at Cambridge University Hospital where he has been Clinical Director since 2005.

Since his appointment in August 1998 he has been involved in modernising and streamlining the breast diagnostic and surgical service and led two major projects to build and open the Cambridge Breast Unit (CBU), a purpose-built diagnostic facility opened in 2000, and the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit opened in 2008. His research into breast cancer survival has shown that the Cambridge Breast Unit is one of the top performing breast units in Europe.

He regularly presents research and gives invited lectures at national and international breast conferences.

He recently developed an on-line prognostic and treatment benefit tool (PREDICT)  based on survival data from the East of England.
